Obituary of Daniel Robson

ROBSON, Daniel March 20, 1928 - December 31, 2020 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear dad, and papa, Daniel Robson. Daniel was born on March 20th, 1928 and passed away peacefully in the early hours of December 31st, 2020 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus. Daniel was born in Glasgow, Scotland. During WWII, Daniel was one of the many children evacuated from Glasgow to the countryside, where he and his cousin had wonderful and mischievous adventures in Crossford, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Following WWII, Daniel served in the Scottish military. He was trained as a wireless operator in morse code and was stationed in Germany. From there he was sent to Egypt, Gaza, and Tripoli. After his time abroad, Daniel became a licensed electrician. While working in Essex, England, Daniel met the love of his life, Marjory McGillivray (1930 to 2019). The pair married on March 20th, 1953 and immigrated to Windsor, Canada later that year. Daniel worked for 37 years with the Ford Motor Company and retired at the age of 62. Throughout his life, Daniel remained active, engaged, and fiercely independent. Both during and after his retirement from Ford, Daniel remained heavily involved in the Local 200 Union and their retiree’s chapter. Daniel’s natural charisma and sharp wit made him a favorite among his peers. At home, he was constantly fixing things, doing jobs around the house, golfing, (which he did for 55 years), attending fitness classes, and taking care of Marjory in her later years. Daniel loved to share stories about his life and stories with friends and family. He never forgot even the smallest details from his past and could recite anecdotes dating back to the 40s with ease. His attention to detail was so good in fact that when in Scotland just recently with his late wife and eldest daughter, Daniel forewent using the GPS to navigate his home country entirely-he remembered the roads, streets, and towns perfectly as if he’d never left. Daniel leaves behind his three children, John (Rhonda), Vicki (John) and Morag (Danny). Precious Papa to Sarah (Adam), Vanessa (Matt) and Stewart (Allison), Andrew (Heather), Spencer and Marnie. Great Papa to Willie and Luna. He also leaves behind nephews and nieces in Scotland and England. Due to the current pandemic, the family plans to host a virtual, online celebration of Daniel’s life. If you would like to be invited to this future event, please send an email to drobsonfuneral@gmail.com and include your phone number. Please feel free to include any memories that you would like to share. We will then notify you via email and phone with instructions on how to join the virtual celebration. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Met Hospital, 4th floor North, for their care of Daniel. In lieu of flowers, if desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Downtown Mission. As per Daniel's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to SIMPLE CHOICE (Dougall) 519-254-2585. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.simplechoicecremation.ca
