In the wee hours of Monday morning, my big brother, Gary, slipped away into the arms of his Saviour, When we were small children, he was always taking me by the hand and pulling me into some new adventure which often didn't end well, but when the scolding came, he we still holding my hand. He was happy, smiling, curious, and very active. I suppose today they would have given him some label (ADHD, Hyper-active) and drugged him to make him quiet. But along with the dangers, he always protected me. As time went on, our family changed and Gary lived with our mother and stepfather while I lived with our grandparents. His life was hard. As a teen, he joined the US Marines. He served until given a medical discharge, then returned home an angry and bitter young man. In around 1968 he met "Red" Wiens, and Red told him about Jesus love and salvation. Gary was a changed man. Was he perfect? No. But he was changed. Gary always made sure to let me know the news from back home: who married who, who had moved away, who had passed away. He always had my back. Across the miles, birthday calls were exchanged and in a crisis, Gary was always ready to help. Even across the country, I knew he was holding my hand. He called me early in September, in pain and breathless. I encouraged him to see a Doctor. He did, and a week later he told me his diagnosis. My husband drove me to see him and we spent all too short a time with him, reminiscing, having a few chuckles, but mostly telling him how much I loved him. When that was no longer possible, I said my last good-bye and told him to go home where mom was waiting for him. During his life here on earth, Gary received precious little unconditional love. Now he can bask in it for eternity while Jesus holds HIS hand.

May Gary now live in peace and harmony away from all sin and pain, but will be with our Lord Jesus Christ, watching over his love ones with happiness and joy. He will be missed by his family and friends here on earth, but his spirit and memories will be with all who know him.
