Obituary of Robert James "Jim" McCoy
It is with great sadness that Susan (Sue) McCoy and Patricia (Patty) Bene announce the passing of Robert James McCoy (Jim McCoy). Jim passed away with Sue and Patty by his side on October 3rd, 2023.
Born July 10th, 1942 to the predeceased Robert and Audrey McCoy in Windsor, ON. Jim is survived by his sisters Margaret Holmes (Allan Holmes), Maureen Stewart (Atholl Stewart), and Carol Watts (Dan Watts). He was a loving father to Patty Bene (Phillip Bene), husband to Sue McCoy (54 years). Known as Uncle Jimmy to Colleen, Jim, Chrissie, Tara, Brendan, Amy, and Peggy. Jim proudly supported the title “Papa Jim” to his treasured grandson Colin Costie, and grandkids through love; Jacklyn Bene, Noelle Dupret Smith, Holden Dupret Smith, and Jony Shleyfman.
Jim is remembered for his time as a beloved teacher/guidance counselor at Belle River, Patterson, and W. D Lowe where he supported many highschool students in the community for years. After retirement, Jim could most often be found with his binoculars, baseball cap, and a cup of “Timmie Hortons” coffee at Obijway Park. Jim was a captivating storyteller, with a story that fit any situation. He always took great interest in the lives of others around him and loved whole heartedly. Jim adored any opportunity to go bird watching in the county, eat along the water, and he reserved every Sunday morning breakfast for his daughter Patty.
Jim can be remembered by loved ones through Country Western Music, and the observation of birds. A celebration of life will be held at Ojibway Nature Centre (5200 Matchette Rd, Windsor) on November 11, 2023 from 1-5 pm. At this time the McCoy family asked that any donations that friends and family want to make in Jim’s honour be made to Ojibway Prairie Complex.
