Major Don McKelvay (retd) posted a condolence

Sadly I just learned of Bob's passing. CSM Hoffman was my Company Sergeant Major back in the 1980's and was a fantastic soldier who cared for his men and was a distinct pleasure to work with. He retired while we soldiered together and the RCR family lost a great man. I was just thinking of him this week as we ran across one another periodically at Walmart in London and spent a few wonderful moments catching up. I learned of his death while searching the Canadian Guards Facebook site and always wondered if Bob had been in 2 Cdn Guards in 1965 when I was a Provost LCpl in that Unit. My heart goes out to his family and I now have a hole in my heart with his passing. Pro Pro Patria and A Mari usque ad mare.

With heavy hearts we say good by to Bob who was a genuine man in all respects. He gave selfishly and asked, nor expected anything in return. This and for many other reasons made Bob a rare and caring individual. Marcy, Maggie, Caleigh, we hope you and the family find solace by being surrounded by your family and friends; and may our love help carry you through this difficult time and beyond. Bob will live on through our memories and the stories we share. With great condolences we are truly sorry for you loss. Love the Lucas family.

Our sincere condolences to the entire Hoffman family, you are in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. I worked with Bob at the Elgin-Middlesex D.C. from 1987 through to his retirement. There is no one that comes to mind that was more committed and dedicated to his work and the staff he worked with than Bob.I respected and looked up to Bob my entire career, a great man and human being that will be dearly missed by all who he touched. God bless his soul and his family.
