I've had the privilege of accompanying Rollie on many fishing excursions, either ice fishing on the mighty Thames or urban fishing on the Detroit River. Always, Santiago the great fisherman, would outfish us all. He would always offer us his fish if we had none to take home! Big heart!! One day, while ice fishing on the Thames, we wagered a dollar for the first fish as we hadn’t had a single bite. Lo and behold, I caught the first fish so Rollie pulled out an American dollar bill and handed it to me saying he didn’t have a loonie. I placed it in a side pocket of my pop up shanty. On subsequent trips to the Thames, we would wager that same dollar! Of course you all know who won that $1 bill, good old Rollie! Happy to tell you, Rollie’s dollar bill remains and will always be in that pocket. So many good memories with that man! Probably scouting the best fishing spots wherever he is now, and outfishing God himself! As for Roland the custodian, he was simply the best! Hands down! Forever in my heart! Bert
