Obituary of Joan Anne Powell (nee Carter)

POWELL, Joan Anne (nee Carter) September 5, 1948 - April 2, 2022 Joan was the wife and devoted partner of Scott Powell, mother of Shawn, and grandmother of Jessica and Alexander. Joan was born in London, Ontario; one of the Carter triplets. She and her siblings David, Jill, Jon, Dennis, Derek and Keith grew up in Byron. She attended teacher's college in London and graduated from the University of Waterloo. Joan constantly took courses and upgrading through her long career. She wore many hats: wife, parent, single parent, educator, sister, and forever offered support to her parents Bruce and Marguerite Carter. No one could have been more passionate through these roles. She was a member of a team that designed a special program for adolescent boys and girls with special needs at Grand River High School. She then moved to University Heights Secondary School where she taught until the end her of her career. Her students adored her, and their parents expressed endless appreciation and respect for her. Many of the students kept in touch with her over the years. She made a positive difference in so many lives, in so many ways. Joan was selfless, caring, kind, and had a generous heart. Most certainly irreplaceable and will not be forgotten soon. As per Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held in Southhampton sometime in June of 2022 - Scott will be back in Southhampton at the end of April 2022.
