On September 19th, 2021, Michael Harry Strauss passed away suddenly at Windsor Regional Hospital in his 74th year. Michael will be deeply and forever missed by his children Serena Strauss (James Liddy), and Regan Strauss (Roxanne Schnurr). He was a proud and loving grandfather to his beautiful grandchildren Hank, Marlee, and Jack. Special brother to Mary Anne McLean, Theresa Roehrig, Margie (Keith "Butch") Campbell, Laura (John) Scott, Barb (Everett) Newton, Cathy Clark (Joe). Predeceased by his parents Leander and Margaret (nee Wood), brother Phillip and partner Robert Murray, and brothers in law Ross McLean and Tony Roehrig. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, his best friend Mike Wendt, Kayla Buchner, and many other close friends & neighbours who adored him. Michael came into this world on June 9th, 1947. He grew up on a small farm outside of Mildmay, Ontario with his brother & 6 sisters. Growing up, his love for snowmobiles, go-karts and fast cars was widely known. His precision and expertise were evident in Billiards, he spent many hours displaying his skills at Duffy’s Pool Hall in Hanover. Another passion he studied was martial arts. He started in the art of karate with the Hatashita Club in Waterloo. Then he ventured into the art of kung fu with The Tiger Mantis Club in Kitchener with his Sifu Glen Heimbecker. He later instructed The Silent Tiger Club in Mildmay with Sifu Mike Wendt by his side. He was proud to show he still mastered the ability to maintain the flexibility of holding the splits. His children have vivid memories watching their father in his workshop where a piece of wood was transformed into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. His talent and ability to create what may seem impossible was not a word he knew. He spent endless hours in his woodshop where this beautiful man, the selfless and humble soul he was, created personalized pieces for numerous family, friends, neighbours and someone who may have crossed his path once but obviously left an impact on Michael. It was evident he made friends wherever he went. Touching the hearts of so many people with the amazing being he was. His love to travel was apparent and where he befriended many good people, he had captivated with his kind self. Dedicated and Loyal are words best to describe Michael’s work ethic. He was a lifetime member of The United Brotherhood of Carpenters. His carpenter work was his life's passion and the pursuit of excellence. He was sought after for his finish carpenter ability and expertise where no one else could provide the perfect finish. He put in the extra time and effort on every job site and Site Supervisors relied on him without exception. In 1998 Michael made his home in Windsor, Ontario. He formed many new friendships with so many wonderful people he loved to praise. Michael had a reflection of kindness that was reciprocated by those who loved him. He was blessed to have the Garden of Friendship many of us hope to establish. Michael was known to praise his children and grandchildren to everyone around him. He was admired and adored by his daughter Serena. Forever a Daddy’s Girl and will always be remembered as her Hero. Michael’s greatest blessing was his three grandchildren who truly made his heart smile. There will be many heartbroken people mourning Michael’s passing. His kindness was immeasurable, and his heart was bigger than he himself, always doing for others, asking for nothing in return. He was hardworking, loyal and a mentor to so many people. It was evident the love this man showed to people was endless. He made it his mission to spread his generosity in simple gestures to everyone who came upon his path. His wish would be for his spirit to continue in the “Good Samaritan” Michael way. Following Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
