Obituary of John Daniel Boyko

BOYKO, John Daniel January 25, 1950 - August 22, 2021 It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Boyko announces his passing at the age of 71. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, John was the son of the late John Boyko and the late Patricia Henkelman (nee Dennis). Cherished husband and best friend to Patti Jones for over 40 beautiful years. Beloved Uncle John to many nieces, nephews and great-nephews. John will be deeply missed by his siblings: Lana (Dave), Sharon (Bill), Perc (Sue), Joanie (Archie), and Mandy. John was also an animal lover, and will be greatly missed by his yellow lab, Miller. John will be fondly remembered for his countless stories, goofy antics, and giving spirit. Dubbed as “Mr. Fixer Upper”, John could always be found in his garage where he spent countless hours masterfully designing and constructing furniture and other works-of-art that will remain with his family for generations to come. John was an avid Toronto Raptors fan, and was a competitive athlete who reached the highest levels of wheelchair basketball as a member of Team Canada at the Paralympics and World Games. Locally, John was an active member of various committees which advocated for people with disabilities. His compassionate spirit and dedication also brought him to South and Central America as a volunteer with the Canadian Paraplegic Association, where he gave the gift of mobility to many individuals by teaching them how to build their own wheelchairs. As per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service will follow at a later date.
