I only met Shirley a couple of times. But knowing Julie since 1977, she was always there for her family. She was strong and determined to make things happen for the good of all. She will be missed. Jean Wright

Dear Charlie, Julie, Randy, Karen and Bill, so very sorry for the loss of your wife, mother and mother-in-law. Although Shirley will be greatly missed by you and all of your extended family, friends and caregivers, her smiles the moments with her and the beautiful things about her will certainly be treasured, remembered and celebrated always. I first met Shirley when Julie and I attended college together. What struck me the most about her then was her incredible pride and unselfish support for her only daughter’s choices regarding career and the relocation required to pursue her dreams. During the following years Shirley made many trips to Toronto to visit Julie and lend a hand in turning an apartment in to a home with her creative skills. Of course it wasn’t all hard work… dining out and shopping with her daughter were the satisfying rewards to visiting the big city. I had the pleasure of Shirley’s company not only in Toronto but back here in Windsor and Amherstburg as well. Visiting her at home and meeting her beloved Dachshunds was so much fun. She’d pop into the mall with Julie and stop by just to say hi. She always had a twinkle in her eyes, a smile on her face and a wonderful sense of humour. In the last little while all it took was a visit from family, a walk in the park and an ice cream to make her happy. She is a light which will always shine bright. The sweet and gentle reminders of her life and love will surround all of us now and always. With love, Liz and Carson XO

Warmest sympathies to Charlie, Julie, Bill, Randy and Karen, I had the good fortune of meeting Shirley in Glencoe at a family BBQ years and up at her gorgeous property in Dorset. The camp that she and Charlie had created was fabulous. I had heard many stories about her as my friendship with her daughter Julie grew through the years. She was every bit as impressive in meeting her in person as Julie had described. Some people have a sparkle and Shirley was one of those people. She appeared years younger than her chronological age and I credit that to her love of nature, family, animals and a great sense of humour. Her bond with her husband Charlie was enviable and her love of Julie and Randy was at the core of her being. What a great person. She leaves a beautiful legacy of love, quick wit and smiles to all who knew her. While right now things will be tough for the family, I know that the amazing devotion, love and many cherished memories from this remarkable woman will be a huge strength. With love and hugs, Betsy, Steve, Dan and Scotty Bertram
