Obituary of David Bruce Wishart

WISHART, David Bruce September 22, 1946 - July 16, 2021 With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved David. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Donna; his children James (Sarah Todd), Christopher (Linda Lisa Hayter), Jonathan, Alexandra Wishart, Erin Edgar (Dave) and Laura Lanktree. Cherished Grampa of Madeleine, Eamon, Sophie, Connor and Zachary. Loving brother of the late Laurie (2019) and Jean Woolford, brothers-in-law Tim and Peter, and numerous nieces and nephews. A perfect day for David was at the cottage, which he and his sons built at Redstone Lake, giving diving lessons, organizing waterskiing, patiently hooking worms for tiny fishers and even tinier fish, swimming to ‘the point’, talking to the ravens, and hiking the hills and valleys of the Haliburton Highlands, all with adoring grandchildren in tow. His heart and soul belong at Redstone. For 37 years, David was a dedicated History teacher in the Niagara region, and at Lowe and Forster Secondary Schools in Windsor. He encouraged curiosity and critical thought, and guided his students to use their voices to stand up when necessary, and to care deeply for the defenseless who deserve better from society. In retirement, his world travels provided a perfect palette for his skilled photography. In his wood shop, his master hand could take a rough piece of wood, exotic or local, and disclose its inner beauty, an activity which he described with great understatement as “making sawdust”. His art will live on to inspire memories of David in the homes of family, friends and strangers. David’s family owes a deep debt of gratitude to the oncologists and nurses at the Cancer Clinic; the staff of MET 4 North, particularly Kelly, Hanine, Dr. Zayouna and Dr. Tyler Gervais; and the entire team of caregivers at The Hospice of Windsor, especially Linda, Dr. Cassidy, Meighen, Amanda and Michelle. Your kind, respectful care made all the difference in David’s journey. We have all been blessed to have David in our lives. To honour him, please plant a tree and raise a glass to this fearless explorer whose joy and wonder at the world around him outshone even the constellations of stars that he knew by heart… In accordance with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to SIMPLE CHOICE (Dougall) 519-254-2585. There will be remembrance gatherings at a later date for friends and family. If you so desire, donations may be made to The Hospice of Windsor Essex County Inc., The Stephen Lewis Foundation, or A Living Tribute Canada.
