Thank you so very much for this. He never gave up that instalment of love for History in 37 years of teaching. He moved to Windsor and taught at two schools here, and was loved by his students, and me, his lucky wife. Donna Wishart

Just happened to run across this obituary in regards to your dear husband David. You have my deepest sympathy.
I taught history for nine years! Then got a masters in guidance counseling. Wow has time gone by since our meeting at Burt Lake I believe in 1962. I often wondered what career path you took. You made a great impression on me!
Take care, Lee Engel

This moves me to tears...somehow I happened upon this today...perhaps you and I have been 'guided'... and I want to thank you for your beautiful tribute which reveals such insight into my husband's true character. I am well as can be expected; if you live here, or visit, do look me up please.

My name is Y Pejman. In 2002-2003 I was an ESL student at Forster Secondary School in Windsor. That year I took History with Mr. Wishart. He left a life long impression on me. I googled him today for some reason and saw his obituary and cried. I wanted to come and leave this note. My fondest memory of him was of the day he brought in a former student of his who had become a lawyer. That day was pivotal in my life because he told us even though we were new immigrants we could become anything we wanted. I did become a lawyer. Sometimes I feel it was his faith in his students that cultivated that seed in me to go and reach what seemed to be an impossible goal for a new immigrant. I remember his lovely wife Mrs.Wishart who was our dedicated librarian. They were so cute together. I hope she is well. She told me she listened to CBC radio. I never forgot that. I only started listening to CBC radio in my car when I turned 35. Every time I turn to CBC radio now I think of her. She was right. It’s a good station I’ll conclude with this: I miss you Mr. Wishart. You were an awesome teacher. Rest In Peace in heaven. Thank you for what you gave me. Y Pejman

I recall after having left Lockview to attend Port High for grade 13 that I one day made a point of it to return to Lockview to visit Mr. Wishart in particular. The memory of his class is vivid, it was engaging, relevant. I still have a book I was assigned to read, and I still value our field trip to visit a Holocaust survivor. He made History tangible.

Dear Donna, My sincere sympathy to you and your family on the passing of Dave. What a beautiful and powerful obituary. I have read it again and again, and now, again. It was an honour to know Dave. Our paths didn’t cross much after his retirement. It was always fun to catch up with you both at WIFF…. so easy to get into a conversation again about this and that, your travels, people we knew, school, the films we’ve seen, his beloved cottage, and so on. Dave always had time. He always looked people in the eye. He listened. He really did. He spoke truth. He was a wise and honourable man. I wish you peace and strength in this part of your life’s journey, Donna. I’m thinking of you. Sincerely, Karen Albu

So sorry hear of Dave’s passing and sending my condolences to Donna and his family. He was such an interesting guy. I first met him when teaching at Stamford CI and remained friends while he was still in Niagara Falls. We visited a few times in Haliburton, and I was always happy to hear of his latest escapades through BJ. Truly a fine man, and an inspiring teacher… his students thoroughly enjoyed him. What a lovely write up. I don’t know if you’d remember, but we traveled together to Asia in 2013 and I remember David’s art of photography, his patience and his professional/paparazzi-like camera lenses. When a tour guide stepped onto our bus and asked if anyone wanted to paraglide off a mountain that neighboured Mt. Everest, David’s hand immediately went up. In that moment, he gave me the courage to soar above Nepal. I am so thankful to him for that experience. My heart goes out to you and your families. with love and prayers,

My sympathy to you, Donna. It was great to travel to China with you and David and observe what “fearless travellers” you were. His description of his woodworking skill as “making sawdust” speaks volumes about the man. Sue Rau

Such a wonderful tribute for a wonderful man. One of our fond memories of David was his eagerness to come and take some of the branches from our cherry tree when we cut it down. It is nice to think that so many of his creations (from making sawdust!!!) from that tree now grace so many homes, including ours. We are sending out healing and loving thoughts to Donna and all of his friends and family.

We met Donna and David in our beloved Algarve. Four teachers, blended families, matching interests and a Scottish background - instant, lasting friendship. David had an insightful, brilliant, kind way. Nothing was too much or too hard when helping family and friends. As couples, we frequently played euchre. David, always a strategic, winning opponent would flash that charming grin, when he knew the girls were euchred. I cherish that joyful memory and so many more.

Dear Donna, I am so very sad to read of Dave’s passing. Although we didn’t have many years teaching together, I think that we made a great team in the social science department of Forster. His teaching strategies inspired me. The noon hours that he devoted to working with students clearly showed his commitment to helping students and I think especially of our ESL students. Dave exemplified what I consider to be one of the best in the teaching profession. My heart goes out to you, Donna. Jim Green
