Obituary of Shirley Madeline Branton

BRANTON, Shirley Madeline February 14, 1932 - May 21, 2021 It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Shirley Branton (nee Flintoff), who died peacefully in her home surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness. Daughter of Glen and Hazel Flintoff (nee Cooper). Shirley was born in 1932 on Valentine's Day. The passing of her father at age four forced her mother to leave Shirley at other friend's and family homes while she went off to work for months at a time. This was described by Shirley as, just having extra moms in her life. The positive attitude was the basis of her life. Shirley graduated in 1952 from the University of Guelph as a dietitian and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, Dr. Harvey Branton (2003). Together they raised six children and lived an active life, enjoying golf and curling. Those that knew her would speak of her with an uncontrolled genuine, loving smile. Shirley was predeceased by her sister Margaret Connolly (John) and brother Carl Flintoff (Jacqueline). She leaves behind 6 children, Paul (Vanessa), Bill (Nancy), Barb, Bob (Diana), Heather Hebert (Pat) and Tom (Jennifer) as well 13 grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren. I would like the memory of myself to be a happy one, and leave laughter and smiles now that life is done. I would leave an echo, whispered softly down the way of happy times and laughing times, and bright and sunny days. I would like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun sets and happy memories that I leave, now that life is done. A cremation has been carried out and a private service has been held. Arrangements entrusted to SIMPLE CHOICE (Dougall) (519) 254-2585. For those who wish, donations may be made to Hospice of Windsor and Essex County or the Farley Foundation.
