Obituary of Stephen George McKeown
Stephen McKeown of Ruthven, Ontario passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 14, 2021. Stephen was born in Windsor Ontario in 1952 and moved to Duncan, Ontario in The Town of Blue Mountains with his parents in 1990. Predeceased by his parents Jack, and Shirley McKeown who devoted their life to him. Left behind his beloved sister Martha Jenner (McKeown) and dedicated brother-in-law Todd Jenner whom he resided with over the past 10 years in Ruthven, Ontario. Uncle of Kathleen Jenner (Windsor), Stephen Jenner (Toronto) who he thought the world of. Steve was a happy Guy! He loved to be with his family, many friends and neighbors. Steve touched so many people with his kindness and he will never be forgotten. His sister, “RED” as he called her, was his “bestie” and the most important person in his life whom he loved very much. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. His smile would light up a room and he will be fondly remembered by his walking buddies Julie, Donna, and Brenda. As a teenager, Steve had a paper route with the Windsor Star for over 16 years in South Windsor. Everyone knew when their paper was delivered when they heard Steve holler out “PAPER”. He also worked for Arch Industries but his real passion was furniture stripping by hand - “Spindles” were his specialty. Steve never missed a day of work. It didn’t matter if it was Christmas Day, Steve had to get out to his “Shop”. He took so much pride in each and every piece of furniture he refinished and many people have these pieces in their homes today. Steve enjoyed fishing and loved baseball. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He enjoyed shoveling snow in the winter and yard work in the summer. He especially liked to rake leaves and no one could pack a yard waste bag like Steve could. Steve was the king of recycling as he meticulously sorted the blue box. Throughout his life, Steve had numerous dogs, cats, and horses that he took care of and were his buddies. Steve loved to play UNO and he was especially good at scrabble. To hear him laugh when he would put down the most unexpected word was priceless. We wish to thank the many home nurses and care givers in the last couple weeks of his life.
