Obituary of Eugene Mailloux
Passed away peacefully at Erie Shores HealthCare, Leamington on July 8, 2020 at 95 years young. Beloved husband of the late Georgine Mailloux (nee Ghanam) and late Rose May (nee Comartin). Loving father of Francis Mailloux (Sara) and Ron Mailloux (Sue) of B.C. Cherished Pépé of Trinity, Taylor, Aidan, Brent (Samantha), Bree-Ann (Jason) and Brittney (Jamie). Great grandchildren Lakin, Everette, Damek and Enzo. Son of the late Albemie and Rosina (nee Gagnon) Mailloux. Brother to the late Ulric Mailloux, Bertha (late Norm) Adams, Mabel Lamont, Mildred (Mac) Rounding, Jeanne (John) VanderPryt, the late Irene Mailloux, Rose Anne (Mike) Cizek, James (Monica) Mailloux, Annette (Bob) Larsh and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Eugene was a retired Chrysler employee. He was indeed the “hardest worker” and was a lifelong learner. Although Eugene did not have much formal education in life, he was always fascinated with how things worked and how to repair and do-it-yourself. Although he spent the last 18 years of his life in a wheelchair, that never stopped him from being independent and getting out and driving his electric wheelchair around the town of Belle River, observing much of the transformations that have taken place over the years in town, such as the Belle River Beach, Marina, and Notre Dame street re-construction. He got the nickname of the “foreman” by many of the locals and construction workers for his regular presence spending much of his days observing the work being done around the town of Belle River. Eugene loved to travel with his late wife Georgine in their motorhome and visited much of Canada and the United States. He also loved to go ice fishing in the winters on lake St. Clair and enjoyed snowmobiling with his cousins. Eugene also loved music and dancing and spent many weekends going to jamborees in SouthWestern Ontario with their group of musician friends. Eugene was also a local sports fan and was a regular at the Belle River Canadians hockey games on Friday nights at the Belle River arena. Eugene was a great example of a human that lived life to its fullest no matter what challenges that life had thrown at him. He was able to live out the entirety of his life on his own terms and lived at his home by himself in Belle River until the very end of his wonderful life. The Mailloux family would like to thank the Erie St. Clair LHIN and the many Personal Service Workers (PSWs) that assisted and provided care to Eugene over the past 18 years while living at home disabled. Without your care, commitment, and regular communications, it would not have been possible for Eugene to live out his life at home while being disabled. We are truly grateful for these services that were provided and Eugene was an example of how the system can work for elderly people that wish to remain living at home. As per Eugene’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will take place sometime in the future. Cremation arrangements entrusted to SIMPLE CHOICE CREMATION CENTRE (Dougall) 519-254-2585. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.simplechoicecremation.ca.
