Sally and family -- I was heart sorry to learn that Alan lost his valiant fight. He was doing so well and had a large cheering section rooting for his success. Sally, you and Alan were amongst the first friends I made when I moved to Victoria and I cherish the welcome you both gave me. I remember so easily some of the gatherings and things we did, including of course, attending many concerts at which Alan sang. Great memories. I know you and the family will miss Alan terribly -- but also know that you'll help each other cope with this terrible loss. Barbara

Alan was an extraordinary human being—kind, loyal, generous and fully engaged in the world around him. Along with our three children, we enjoyed wonderful times with Alan and Sally on Vancouver Island, hiking, camping and sharing many meals together. We feel blessed to have known Alan, and extend to Sally and family our love and heartfelt condolences.

Alan was a wonderful person. He was a guy who gave of himself to friends and to the community. He was a modest person who did things for others without telling the world. Alan and Sally always drove me to the Windsor Symphony performances. Alan was careful to ensure that I did not slip and fall in icy weather, and walked patiently at my very slow pace. He enjoyed a good conversation, and was well-informed on virtually everything. Alan was an astute and passionate music lover. He enjoyed music of every sort: including opera, jazz and symphonic music. A calm gentle soul, Alan was easy to be with. I am sad to have lost such a dear friend. Alan was a guy who would do one a favour. When I needed help hanging pictures, Alan offered to do it. When I look at those paintings, now, I am reminded of his careful, exacting strategy for getting each one hung - PERFECTLY! Alan was a fine gentleman in every possible way. I shall miss him. All of us who knew Alan will miss him deeply.

Losing a dear friend is very sad and not easy to accept .Alan was a dear friend and during his many years in Victoria he gave us much joy. He was always willing to pitch in and help no matter how big the task. His loyalty and commitment w ere unquestionable. Alan loved celebrations and Canada Day was a special one. He brought his own unique personality to all or gatherings. Thanks for the memories Alan . We will miss you dearly..all your Victoria friends.

One of the many gifts Alan gave to us was seeing Powell River through his eyes recreating with him some of his childhood memories. I am so very sad that he is gone but feel blessed with many happy times together in Windsor and Victoria.
