Obituary of Doreen Florence Rudge
Passed away peacefully after a long illness. Beloved daughter of John (1970) and Elizabeth Rudge (1987). Adored twin sister of Edna Dixon (2011) and brother-in-law Norman Dixon (2010). Wonderful, amazing aunt and second mother to niece Nancy Evans (Robert Evans) and nephew David Dixon (Vivian Abdelmessih). Loving great-aunt to Jaclyn (Dave Cobban), Denis, and Carson Evans, and to Charlotte and Claire Dixon.
Doreen lived a long and eventful life. Professionally, her career spanned several decades at Detroit Bank and Trust, later known as Comerica Bank. During especially challenging times, Doreen was one of the many trailblazers who helped forge the way for women who came after her in the corporate workforce.
But her most lasting legacy is the love and loyalty she had for those closest to her. As a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, and as a selfless and generous caregiver, Doreen left a legacy of compassion and kindness that lives on. We are all better for having known and loved Doreen, and for having been loved by her. We are heartbroken to see her go, but take comfort in knowing that her suffering has ended and she is now at peace.
The family is grateful to all of Doreen's caregivers, and most of all to Shandelle Gaines and her family. Shandelle's care for Doreen during her final years and days was heroic. With an incredible generosity of spirit, Shandelle made sure that Doreen could live with dignity despite the toll taken by her illness. Shandelle and her family carried the burden of care with such enormous grace, compassion, and expertise that Doreen's final years still had many moments of joy and laughter and adventure. For that, we will be forever thankful.
