Obituary of Hortens Nerissa Gray

GRAY, HORTENS

APRIL 20, 1920 – DECEMBER 13, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hortens Nerrisa Gray announces her passing on December 13, 2023, at the age of 103.

She was affectionately known as Mama, Mother Gray and Grandma.

Mama was a beloved mother to 11 Children: Keith, Sheila, Rudolph, Joan, Patricia, Lorna, Beverley, Naomi, Kenneth, Donnarene and Carole.

Mama’s legacy lives on in her children and her 41 Grandchildren, 61 Great Grandchildren and 22 Great Great Grandchildren.

Mama enjoyed sewing and cooking. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune every night. Mama read her bible every day and was known on occasion to drop a bible verse to suit a lecture or a happy moment. Her life’s joy was taking care of the children of friends and her grandchildren.

Mama is going home to rest in the Lord’s embrace where she will be reunited with her husband “Papa,” and her children Rudolph and Beverley.

Mama, will be forever remembered, cherished and celebrated by us all.

My life has passed

I loved you all to the very last

Weep not for me, but courage take

Love each other for my sake

For those you love don’t go away

They walk beside you everyday

As per Mama’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

We would like to thank the many PSW’s, Nurses and Care Coordinators from St. Elizabeth Health as well as the team from The Hospice of Windsor & Essex County.
