Obituary of Michael Caverhill

Michael Caverhill

(June 3, 1949 - November 22, 2023)

It is with deep sadness that the family of Michael Caverhill announce his passing on November 22, 2023 at age 74.

Predeceased by his loving wife Linda, he was the cherished father of daughter Victoria and son Matthew, and beloved grandfather of Helena.

Dear son of the late Kathleen Caverhill (nee Bradford).

Loving brother of Stuart (Diana) and the late James.

Dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews and extended family.

As he got older, Michael would often tell stories of his youth, full of details of his childhood with his late mother and his brothers in Tecumseh, and of his young married life in Essex. Stories rich with the simple joys he found daily and of the Triumphs and tribulations of those times, and he looked back fondly on that part of his life often.

An avid hockey fan, especially of the Toronto Maple Leafs, he had the pleasure of playing the sport he loved during multiple phases of his life.

As a UAW union steward and a health and safety committee-person at Bendix in 1980, Michael took a stand for the safety of his fellow workers at the plant by refusing to work within the asbestos departments there. It was an event which brought issues at its Windsor locations to the attention of a wider audience. He was proud of taking that stand and that he had fought for the long-term safety of not just himself but also other workers.

Following the closure of Bendix, Michael pursued his lifelong love of music at the University of Windsor, proudly graduating with a Bachelors of Musical Arts in 1985. His passion was playing the classical guitar.

He later overcame a debilitating back injury suffered at Gen-Auto Shippers to complete a diploma in Mechanical Engineering at St. Clair College, leading him to work with Brand Fabricating and later at Titan Tool, where he eventually became the Quality Assurance Manager, a position he held until he retired in 2013.

As per his family’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
