Obituary of Walter Harvey Dowden

Our family is sad to announce the passing of our Walter Dowden.  The most generous, compassionate, kind, and dependable man you'd ever encounter. Walter was aged 68 when he passed away peacefully November 10th, 2023, with family by his side. He was born May 21st, 1955 in London, Ontario, to Josephine and Sydney Dowden.  He married the love of his life, Cynthia Dowden (nee Shoebottom) October 4th, 1975.

Walter is survived by his children Janet Dowden, Michelle (James) Gillies; grandchildren Landen and Natalie Gillies; brother in law George (Debbie) Shoebottom; many sisters and brother in laws, as well as nieces, nephews and his dog Mya.

Walter is predeceased by his wife Cynthia Dowden, his parents Josephine and Sydney Dowden; his in laws Willard and Helen Shoebottom and his brothers Gerald and John-Paul Dowden.

Walter worked at the Canadian National Railway (CN) for 10 years, before working at Canada Post for 30 years. He was very sociable, with a quick wit. He could effortlessly put a smile on anyone’s face. He was a friend to everyone and always put others first. He literally would do anything for anyone. He cut grass and ploughed snow for neighbours, he fixed anything Cynthia would sign him up for. Walter was a man of all trades and able to fix anything needing to be fixed. He would show up at your door anytime anywhere if you were in need.

He loved hosting family events, building/driving his dune buggy and racing cars at Delaware Speedway.  He attended every one of his grandchildren's ringette and hockey games. He was creative, fun and always saw the good in every situation. He visited his wife's grave site everyday since her passing.  His love and passion for family and friends will live on in his grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and entrusted to Simple Choice Cremation London, 519-659-2163.
