Obituary of Joseph Burgie
Joseph (Joe) Burgie
December 6, 1944 – September 17, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Uncle Joe Burgie on Sept. 17, 2023 at the age of 78.
Joe is survived by his niece Patricia Thomas, his nephew Jim Thomas and wife Tara of Windsor. His nephew John Thomas and wife Beth of Atlanta GA. His great-nephew Bryan and great-niece Kimberly also Atlanta GA. He is predeceased by his mother (Verna), father (Joseph), sister (June) and brother-in law Donald Thomas.
Joe had recently moved into Banwell Gardens. He made many friends among the staff and fellow residents. Joe always made it a point to make new friends when travelling through the city by bus or walks in the mall where he purchased his many DVD’s. He was a regular at many diners (especially Louie’s) for breakfast where the staff knew his order before he sat down.
Joe had a love for life while overcoming a difficult childhood where school was not really an option for the developmentally challenged. He overcame his disability with a thirst for knowledge thru books, volunteering at the senior center, watching old serial movies and meeting new people wherever he went.
He had a “rain man” like memory for people he met, every character he read in books or watched on old movie serials and TV shows.
The family would like to thank the staff at Banwell Gardens, Community Living of Windsor, especially John and Tracy, the support of our friend Deb as well the Nurses and Doctors on the 4th floor Coronary Care Unit (WRH) for their kindness and going the extra mile in his care.
Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices Inc.
Interment will take place privately at Victoria Memorial Gardens. He will be laid to rest next to his parents who he missed every day.
