Obituary of Bette McShane

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bette McShane (nee Cushman) on July 19, 2023 at the Hospice of Windsor. Beloved wife and best friend of Bernard “Bernie” McShane with whom she spent over 51 years of marriage and friendship.

Proud mother of Matt, Sean (Jessica) and Kyle (Anshoo).

Loving grandmother to the apples of her eye, Georgia, Reid and Aaron.

Daughter of the late Peter and Mary Cushman predeceased.

Sister of Colleen Bowsky (Roger), Mary Jane Adams (Robert, predeceased) and her twin sister, Barbara Lodge.

She is also survived by her sisters-in-laws Mary Leffering (John), Kathy McShane (Fran Conte, predeceased), Bridget Ralls (Steve, predeceased), and Eileen Donovan. She was blessed with fifteen nieces and nephews and she loved each and every one of you.

Bette was an amazing and selfless person, never one to complain and always putting others before herself.Although, she was never a big sports fan, she attended hundreds of games over the years just to see her sons participate and provide support. She loved nothing better than a hot cup of tea and a good book to read. She also loved long Sunday rides in the county and picnics at Point Pelee.

During the last two months we have been supported by our loving families and the kindness and generosity of our friends and neighbours. We will never forget you!!

A really big thank you goes out to the absolutely wonderful nurses and staff and the Hospice of Windsor. They made a truly dire situation bearable with their immense compassion and encouragement. It was our intention to name them all individually, but we didn’t want to inadvertently omit someone. You are a remarkable group of people who radiate love. Thanks for the pep talks, your willing ears, the gentle pats on the shoulder and the hugs. You are doing exactly what you were put on earth for. Love you all.

Special thanks to the ER nurses at MET and the Oncology Department  Doctors and nurses on the fourth floor; especially Gina, Nhi and Wu. Also we would like to thank Dr. Woldie and his assistant Laurie (Bette loved you).

Last, but certainly not least we want to thank our Family Doctor Gary Ing, we have been so blessed to have you in our lives.

My wife gave me an Anniversary card last month which said on it that “We might not be perfect people, but we were perfect  for each other.” I couldn't agree more.

If you wish, donations to the Hospice of Windsor would be appreciated by the family.

Cremation has taken place.

There will be a
