Obituary of Rita Marie Barrett (nee Champagne)

Passed away peacefully on August 12, 2019, one week after her 93rd birthday at Riverside Place Care Home in Windsor, Ontario. Rita is survived by her three children: Richard Barrett and his wife, Gail; Valerie Barrett and her partner, Roger; and Cindy Barrett. Rita was a loving grandmother to her two grandchildren Zoe Friesen and Thomas Barrett, and she had very special relationships with her loving niece, Joan Lamotte (nee Champagne) and devoted friend, Nadia Stankovic. Rita was born in Transcona, Manitoba, in 1926. She was very proud of her Métis heritage and her indigenous roots, and often told stories about growing up in her large and loving francophone family. Rita had a sharp mind, a warm heart and a strong spirit. She was admired by many for her honesty, kindness and quick wit. She loved music, often breaking into song when a word in a conversation brought to mind a tune, and she spent many happy hours singing along to favourites. All who would like to join in a Celebration of Life for Rita are welcome to attend at Riverside Place, 3181 Meadowbrook Lane, Saturday, August 17th, from 12 noon to 2pm.
