Obituary of Winnifred Wilson
Winnifred Johnson was born in the English seaport of Lytham, Lancashire in March 1914. Soon her father was off to the Great War. After two years the family moved to the industrial town of St. Georges in Shropshire in part to be near family and help with the recovery of her father from the horrors of the War. After completing school Winnifred left England with her older sister Irene and joined her oldest brother Edmund in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. This was in November 1929. Winnifred was 15 years of age. She soon came to the attention of Clarence Earl Wilson. They married in 1932 and had a daughter Marjorie in 1933. To seek better work the family moved to Windsor, Ontario in 1940. Clarence was a toolmaker and designer with Ford Canada during World War 2 and continuing to 1970. Following the War they built a home in undeveloped South Windsor. Clifford William Wilson was born just before they moved into their new house in 1951. After the children were out in the world Winnifred realized her lifelong dream of traveling the world by ship and plane. Winnifred went to dozens of countries. She was one of the first tourists to be allowed in China in the 1970s. For many years she would spend the winter in Hawaii. Winnifred is survived by her two children, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Thank you from our family to the care Winnifred received from Huron Lodge, Windsor Regional Hospital Cancer Centre, LHIN/CCAC, Bayshore especially Gina Hanna, St Elizabeth especially Sara Price and Ford of Canada. Winnifred requested a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Cancer Society or WRH Cancer Centre.
