Obituary of Muriel M. Coligan

COLIGAN, Muriel (nee Lefebvre) On February 1, 2018 she left us quietly at the Huron Lodge Long Term Care Home in Windsor, Ontario with her family by her side. Muriel made a big impression with many people during her 83 years. She was loud, bold with her honesty and loved to laugh. She could also pick up the tempo of any party by playing the spoons and yodeling. Muriel was born in the tiny Franco-Ontarian community of Plantagenet on November 3, 1934 to Leona and Leslie Lefebvre. She later married Lawrence Joseph Coligan of Morrisburg, which set her on a journey that included three children and various households, a series of moves that eventually ended when our family settled in Amherstburg, Ontario. Although the marriage didn"t survive, mom made sure her children were provided for by working various jobs, including 30 years for Seagram on the company"s bottling line for Crown Royal rye whisky. It is well known by family and friends that our mom was not one to spare people"s feelings, but she was generous with both her time and money. At one point, throwing caution to the wind, she decided to foster four children from two separate families, along with her own three kids, in a house that was tight enough for four. Although Muriel"s final months of being cared for were in Windsor, she was fortunate to be able to stay in her home on Bathurst Street well into her 80s. Muriel Coligan is survived by her sister Rachel Schwerdtfeger of Ottawa, and her three children; Neil Coligan (daughter-in-law Susan Ekdahl) of Winnipeg, Brian Coligan (daughter-in-law Carrie Coligan) and Lyn Coligan, all of Windsor. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren; Tori (husband Jeff Derksen) and Joshua Coligan, along with Shawn Spina (wife Desiree Spina) and Stacey Spina. Muriel is predeceased by her brother Marcel Lefebvre. The family wishes to thank the staff at both the Shoreview at Riverside Retirement Home and the Huron Lodge Long Term Care Home. Cremation has taken place and no funeral was held as per Muriel"s request. Arrangements entrusted to SIMPLE CHOICE CREMATION CENTRE (519-254-2585).
