Obituary of John Portsmouth Nash

On December 12, 2017 in Amherstburg at the age of 84, after visiting with family and friends, John passed away peacefully watching the ships go by, while listening to the sounds of Frank Sinatra. John has joined his late wife Evelyn (2003) and is dancing under the stars. John was predeceased by his parents Claude and Marion Nash (Edgewater Beach, Amherstburg) and his siblings Fred Nash and Edith (Nash) Cory. John will be missed by his big brother and lifetime fishing partner Robert Nash (Sheila Nash). John is survived by his children Scott Nash and Lisa (Nash), Lisa's husband Chris Lawlor and daughter Jaiden Paige Nash Stiles. Grandpa and Grandma Ev will now both be watching over their beautiful granddaughter. Grandpa loved to hear the highlights of Jaidens Hockey and Fastpitch games! Uncle Jack will be missed by many nieces and nephews in both the U.S. and Canada. He was the guy that never gave in. John was passionate in his beliefs about the Great Lakes high water issues and weather modification. He had a charming personality, was blessed with the gift of gab, enjoyed a good game of cards or Cribbage and loved watching golf or going metal detecting. A special thank you to Sharon Colman, Mary Brownlie and family, the doctors, nurses and staff at Y. Emara - Palliative unit for their exceptional compassionate care. In keeping with John's wishes no funeral was held and cremation has taken place. A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date in spring. John"s belief; Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep; I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning"s hush. I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die. In celebration of John"s life, the Nash family sends you; An Irish Blessing. May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rain fall soft upon your fields and, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
