Obituary of Lynda Christine Smith

Born on March 14, 1955 in Scarborough, ON. Passed away on September 29, 2017 having nurtured and inspired family, friends and her students, whom she guided on their journey to adulthood. In her final months she chose a path allowing her to prioritize and enjoy quality of life over length of life. She continued to follow three principles which shaped her approach to living: to be in control of her journey, to care for others, and to relish and be thankful for the simple pleasures and surprises that each day presents. Beloved wife of 25 years to Dennis Neidbala (son Daniel Nichols), cherished mother of Reginald David Hart (wife Barbara Marchand Dwyer-Hart), basketball coach and mentor to youth, and treasured daughter of Margaret Ann Mady (nee Smith) and Henry Joseph Mady (late, June 24, 2006). Much loved sister of Catherine Elizabeth Newton (husband David Newton), Barbara Jean Meredith (husband Steven Meredith) and Janice Elaine Mady (husband Brian Jaques). Adored aunt of Melissa, Lindsey, Bronwyn, Lauren and Joshua and cousin of Susan. Recipient of the 2016/2017 "Educator of the Year" award from the Ontario Autistic Society, Lynda was a passionate teacher with the Greater Essex County District School Board. She spent many years developing and teaching various Special Education programs, including the past ten years during which she helped autistic and other students with multiple exceptionalities adjust to the high school environment, and to learn foundation skills to ensure a fulfilling life after graduation. A bursary is being set up in Lynda"s name for a graduating student of the MAPS program at Westview Freedom Academy, where Lynda taught for over 20 years. Donations may be made by cheque, payable to GECDSB referencing the Lynda Smith Bursary Fund and sent to Westview Freedom Academy, 1375 California Ave., Windsor, ON N9B 2Z8. Lynda"s family will hold a private memorial to celebrate her life and her remarkable achievements. Arrangements entrusted to SIMPLE CHOICE CREMATION CENTRE (519-254-2585).
