Obituary of Maria Pellarin

The last page of this chapter has been written, and this book has been closed. It is about a very simple yet exemplary love story. Two very special individuals, Luigi (Gigi) Pellarin and Maria Celotto met, courted and married on January 22, 1949. It was so important for them to have Gigi"s oldest brother Monsignor Giuseppe Pellarin be the celebrant. Gigi was determined to provide more than what was available in Italy for his spouse and their future family. A month after their marriage he made that eventful boat trip to Canada, promising to send for Maria once he became established. So Maria waited patiently. A year later, she received a letter with money to pay for a ticket abroad and on July 4, 1950, Maria joined her spouse. Maria was soft spoken, very caring and of few words. Her nurturing ways were the foundation for making their house a home. Quite simply, her entire life was about the family-always putting their needs before hers. By her example, the grandchildren learned the important values of faith and family. Maria was quite proud of her flower gardens and especially loved her roses. Even though Maria"s many ongoing health issues challenged their marriage, their love remained steady and God rewarded Gigi and Maria with 64 years. Gigi then began to plan for an eternal home for the two of them and on February 2, 2013 Gigi once again said goodbye to Maria. Again he asked her to wait for Him and she patiently waited four years to be reunited. This time no letter was sent. Gigi returned, took Maria"s hand and escorted her to their eternal home. This beautiful love story will now be treasured by their children Rick and Della, and Gloria, and especially by their precious grandchildren Jesse and Holly (children Mika and Wyatt), Kory, Adam and Nina, Ricky and Alanna (children Avalina, Marciano, Gianluigi and Angelia), Eric and Sarah, Aaron and Laura, and Deana. For both Gigi and Maria their grandchildren were "suoi figli" and the feeling was truly mutual. It was important for Maria to keep contact with her two surviving siblings and she looked forward to her weekly long distance calls to her younger sister Inez Odorico (Italy) and her many daily local phone calls to her baby sister Luisa Sartor. The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to Huron Lodge, especially the Magnolia Unit, where both the staff and residents became Nonna Maria"s extended family for the past two years. A memorial Mass for Maria will take place on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Immaculate Heart Parish, 2153 Parkwood Ave., Windsor (south of Tecumseh Rd. E, between Hall and Woodlawn). www.simplechoicecremation.ca
