Obituary of Dr. Vernon R. Messer, M.D.

MESSER, Dr. Vernon Robert, M.D. passed away on October 31, 2016 surrounded by loving family at the young age of 92. In losing him, our strength has diminished. Vern is dearly missed by his wife Victoria "Vicky" King. He is also survived by ex-wife and friend Edith "Gus" Messer, his children Lois Hamilton (Mark), Robert (Jane), Kirk (late Sue) and step-children Melissa Weldon (Shawn) and Johnny King (Patti). Vern was also the proud grandfather to Kirsten, Stephanie, Maddie, Carter and Sammy. Vern is also greatly missed by his incorrigible dog. A complicated man, Vern could be described in many words: innovative, confident, humorous, irascible and above all -- one of a kind. A man of foresight and vision, he left family practice in 1967, to originate and open Windsor's first medical walk-in clinic. Originally known as Windsor Industrial Clinic, it evolved with many changes into The Windsor Medical Clinic -- with 2 sites in Windsor and a similar site in Toronto. A difficult beginning for Vern has now been emulated by many physicians throughout Windsor and Ontario. He was a worker, who pushed himself every day. Vern had high expectations of those around him, but held an even higher standard for himself. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in his treatment and care, especially Dr. V. Karnik, the staff of The Windsor Medical Clinics, WRH-Ouellette Campus E.R., Radiology, 7 East, and C.C.A.C. Vern lived life, and left this earth his way. To respect Vern"s wishes, there will be no service. To remember him, please pass along a thoughtful smile, eat a healthy diet, stay physically fit, or share one of his numerous adventures/experiences.
