Obituary of Karen Nancy Nantais

We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt has passed away after a lengthy battle with lupus and kidney disease. Beloved wife of Norm for almost 60 years. Wonderful mom and best friend of Kim Regnier (Gary), Lori, and Jamie (Margie Dumas). Proud gram/cheerleader to Danielle Rimbert (Sebastien), Ryan Regnier (Isabella MacMillan), and Sarah Regnier, and Shayla and Jonathan Nantais. Special great gram of Olivia Rimbert and baby Rimbert-to-be. Best friend and sister of Sue Belanger (Keith). Dear daughter of the late Kitty Smith (late Bob Smith) and late John Nixon. Dearest sister-in-law of the late Bernadette (late Percy) Drouillard, late Bernard (late Theresa) Nantais, late Frank (late Peggy) Nantais, Martha (Stan) Dupuis, Monica (late Leonard) Adam, Helen (late Don) Shanahan, and Jules (Shirley) Nantais. Special aunt to many nieces and nephews. Lifelong friend of Phyllis Croft, the late Lenny Claringbold, Don (Jackie) Murphy, Lucy Herniman, and Pam Breault. Karen was a Registered Nurse, graduating from Metropolitan General Hospital in 1963. She worked at Met for a few years then settled in her lifelong position as Dr. Tom Echlin’s office nurse (Medical Associates) where she stayed for the next 42 years, retiring at age 71. She truly loved her job and the people she worked with. She could give a “shot” better than anyone. Karen developed kidney disease 7 years ago (complications from lupus) and went on dialysis. During the years with her many conditions, she got through each one with grace and determination. She truly loved life! She suffered so much and we know she is finally at peace. Our family would like to thank the angels (doctors and staff) at the Renal Dialysis Program. You truly made her 3x/week visits there more bearable with your caring and expertise. Also special thanks to mom’s nieces Krishna and Vanessa and great niece Kaitlyn for all your love and support. Thank you to Dr. J. Loaring for your care over the years. Also thanks to WRH-Ouellette Campus-ER, CCU, and 4Medical as well as the Hospice of Windsor Essex County for your compassion and care. As per Karen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit-Windsor Regional Hospital or Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.
