Obituary of Margaret Meloche Gillis

MELOCHE, Margaret F (nee Gillis) June 24, 1933 - September 12, 2022 On Monday, September 12, 2022, our beloved mother, Margaret (Margie) Gillis departed and left an unfillable hole in our hearts and lives. She was a kind and gentle spirit with a brave heart, a generous soul, and an indomitable will to survive despite the trials and challenges God presented her with. After the loss of her husband, Roger (1972), she rose to the impossible task of raising three children on her own, worked a demanding job, achieved an accounting degree, and still managed to delight in the smallest of things. She could never resist helping stray animals or healing injured ones. She gave them as much love as she gave us. Mom, we shall not ask why you were taken from us, but instead, remember why you were given to us. We will remember your reassuring hand on our fevered foreheads and the joy in your eyes when you danced that Irish Jig one Christmas. We will remember how you encouraged us to stretch our wings while you sacrificed the chance to stretch your own. You taught us to be strong, independent thinkers and told us to follow our hearts, not the crowd. We will carry these gifts forever. Thank you Mom - for all of it. Margaret leaves behind her loving family, Michele and Al, Chris and Michelle, Roger and Lorrie. Also, her remaining sister, Judy and family, and the nieces and nephews of her already departed brother and two sisters. We send deep gratitude to the Sandwich Town staff at Aspen Lake Retirement Home for the care and compassion you've so generously given her. Immediate family will accompany her to St. Simon and St. Jude Cemetery in Belle River, where she will finally rest with her husband, Roger Meloche. Arrangements entrusted to Simple Choice (Dougall). As there will be no funeral home visitation, we ask that donations to Erie Wildlife Rescue be made in lieu of flowers. Mom would have been glad to help the animals she didn't get a chance to save. We know it would also warm her heart if those who loved her would share a toast by the bonfire in her honour. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.SimpleChoiceCremation.com.
