Obituary of Sydney Richard Lowe

Sydney Lowe After a short cancer illness, Sydney Richard Lowe passed away on August 25 at the age of 84. Syd is survived by his loving wife, of almost sixty years, Patricia Lowe and his three children David (Cheri), Bruce (Dana) and Mary (Dan), along with his grandchildren Delmarr, Blake, Bradley, Evan and Lucas, and his great granddaughter Charlee. Syd also leaves his sister Shirley (Willard) and their children as well as his cousins Bill and Bev Timpson and their family. A life-long resident of Windsor, Syd predeceased his parents Sydney H. and Minnie Lowe and his beloved grandson Jacob. We are comforted knowing that Syd is now with Jacob singing their favourite song together - Hakuna matata from the Lion King movie. Syd was happiest with his family and dogs at his cottage in NW Ontario – one he built himself. He was able to take one last trip there this summer after his diagnosis, where he put the final touches on the bunkhouse, he built the summer before. Our dad worked for 41 years at the General Motors Transmission plant and could be described as a reluctant retiree. In the years since he left GM, he busied himself in many volunteer activities from Meals on Wheels to supporting his church. Known by his family and friends as the resident handyman, he was never far from his garage and tools, always happy to lend a hand to repair or help build something for those he cared about. He led his life backed by strong values of hard work, giving back to his community and being there for his family, friends and neighbours. A special thank you to all his friends – those he’s been close with since his school days, former GM colleagues, treasured neighbours throughout the years and those he met more recently through his church community. You have all been blessings in his life and we want you to know how grateful he was for these friendships. Never one wanting to be the centre of attention, his wish was for a small ceremony for family and close friends. Donations on Syd’s behalf can be made to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation.
