Obituary of Gerald Richard Corriveau

Gerald Richard Corriveau July 23, 1932 - August 3, 2022 With great sadness we announce the passing of Gerry Corriveau Sr. of Windsor at age 90. With tremendous gratitude for all that he was, we reflect on his beautiful life. Gerry was a devoted husband to Margaret (2020) for 64 yrs. Together they raised their four children Gerald (Donna), Heather (Phil Lewis), Karen (Frank Retar) and Kevin (Lori). As great as he was at being a Dad, he somehow was an even better grandpa to Samantha Corriveau (Jason McKinlay), Ben Corriveau (Casey), Hanna Lewis, Anna Retar Corriveau and lovingly welcomed Step-Grandchildren Kiefer Gunn (Stephanie), Keely Sprankle (Steven). Gerry was beyond joyful (he adored children) to be a great-grandpa to Lillian and Madeline McKinlay, Cameron Corriveau, Lucy, Margaret and Florence Sprankle. Gerry will be remembered with a smile in the hearts of many nieces and nephews, Goddaughter Kelly Ledbetter, Godson Giles Parent Jr., brothers and sisters and their families. Gerry grew up in a family of 11 children, which perhaps helped him develop the limitless patience, humility, acceptance and reverence of family that we were lucky to receive and witness. Gerry was son to Calixte and Genevieve Corriveau, brother to late Eileen (late Raymond) Pilon, late Lenore (late Harvey) Brush, late Donald (Joan) Corriveau, Joan (late Walter) Prymack, late Eddie (late Sharon) Carriveau, late George (late Rita) Corriveau, Bernice (Dennis) Walsh, Tom (Joann) Corriveau, Carol (John) Harcarufka, and Gail (late Tom) Melrose. Gerry grew up in Riverside, where he played every sport imaginable. He and his brothers Ed and George played hockey for Assumption with great success. Gerry excelled in hockey as a talented defenseman, playing for the Spitfires and then played professionally in Europe. It was in Scotland that he met and married Margie. They then returned to Windsor to raise their family. Gerry enjoyed coaching hockey in Riverside, and in his later years traded his skates for golf clubs. He became a pipe fitter where he worked at the gas company in Detroit until his much enjoyed retirement with Margie. They enjoyed their summer trailer right next to his brother and best friend, George, where they hosted many a Corriveau Pierogi Open golf tournament. They spent their winters golfing, socializing and hosting family and friends in Florida. They worked hard and had a great life together. Gerry exuded kindness and love like no one else, he always listened first and accepted everyone exactly as they are. He was gentle, generous and loved beyond words. We’re so grateful for everything that he gave us. We will miss and love him forever. At Gerry’s request, there will be no funeral service and he will be eterned with Margie. The family will host a remembrance celebration for them both at a later date. As a tribute to Gerry, be kind to one another, love deeply, visit your old people and hug your little people.
