Obituary of Matthew Richard Kwesi Allsopp

ALLSOPP, Matthew "Matt" Richard Kwesi August 31, 1966 - March 31, 2022 Matt passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 31st, 2022 at the age of 55 years in Windsor, Ontario. Matt was predeceased by his parents, William Herbert Lawrence Allsopp (2016), Vera Megan Elsie Allsopp (2014). Matt was born in Accra, Ghana on the 31st of August, 1966 and lived there with his parents, WHL (Bertie) and Megan Allsopp until 1973. The Allsopp family decided to move to Vancouver where they settled permanently in 1974. Matthew grew up in Vancouver and attended both primary and secondary school there. After that, he went to Florida International University (FIU) to do his first degree in hospitality studies. He graduated in the early 1990s and later proceeded to the Culinary Institute of America, where he pursued training to be a chef and graduated as a master chef in the late 90s. His culinary talents were quite remarkable, and he worked in well-known restaurants in Vancouver. Matt later moved into the areas of Information Technology, became a consultant to several companies, then had his own restaurant business. He also went into real estate, house flipping and many other endeavors in his life. Throughout his life, Matt was a kind, helpful and generous person with a pleasant personality who did the best he could to live a useful and productive life always with a smile and kind words for everyone. However, having developed kidney disease years ago, his later life was something of a struggle to keep doing his everyday duties and to keep up with the treatment for his health. His courage under difficult circumstances stood out. Although he will be sorely missed by family members and friends, deepest condolences must also go to his husband Michael Potter for his great loss. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Renal Dialysis Department, Ouellette Campus of Hotel dieu Grace, or to The Hospice of Windsor Essex.
