I was saddened to just now learn of the passing of “Principal Bishop”, as we knew him. He was my principal for the seven years I attended St. Mike’s from Grade 7 through OAC. His passion for the school was obvious and infectious. To his family, I wish to convey my condolences, to share that I remember him fondly, and vouch that he did indeed convey expectations for all of us students to try to be the best we could be. May he Rest In Peace. Sincerely, Mike Dunn, St. Mike’s Class of ‘93

MY condolances to Bernice and family. Thinking of Danny brings a smile to my face: visiting at the cottage and watching the lightning over the lake, being at Bernice and Danny's home and apartment in Stratford where Danny would bring me up to date on all things Irish and gave me a good football education, the pride on the day of the official opening of St. Mike's in Stratford and attending the Phantom of the Opera in Toronto, me in my cowboy boots which made him laugh. As a fellow teacher, I was so lucky to have known Danny and Bernice and I will treasure these memories. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Carolyn Miland

My family was moved by the sad news of Dan's departure and the limitations in celebrating his life. We will never forget Dan and all his outstanding work in our tradition, a faithful Catholic at heart. He represented the embodiment of Catholic values: faith, hope, love, wisdom, justice, courage, and fortitude. Never step back from doing the right thing and always strived to do the best within the limitations. He did treat everyone with dignity, even in the presence of religious ideologies that divide people and relationships. He knew how to be humorous and dissolve all tensions, a master at peacebuilding. He brought forth the best in all of us, never gave up that tremendous challenge, or found it tedious; on the country, it always brought a smile to his face, especially when he asked the typical question; "are we complicating this thing...too much?" Everyone, and without saying anything, simplified things and made them doable. He would always say: "I guess we all agree, so let us move on!" He enjoyed seeing people working together. We will miss such a great peacebuilder who bought to our region the old traditional legacy of educating youth within our values. He often would say: "We educate for the future because God is always good to those who hope and trust." That' was his secret when taking up impossible tasks, and kids loved his optimism! We love you Dan and will miss you until we see you again in God's time! Natanael, Tara and Neyda

Bernice and Family I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Danny. He was my guardian angel at Notre Dame when I started there. I was rough around the edges and he helped me through that and allowed me to turn into the teacher I ended up being today (retired now). Just to remind you, he and Ted helped me and Susan move into our house and we are still in there today. I will never forgive myself for not having more help when we moved but I did not have many friends and was naive. Susan was upset that we could not get the mattress up the stars and was starting to hyper-ventilate and Danny told her just to take it easy and he would figure it out and he did. I have thought about you both, often, since you moved away from Welland. Did Danny ever tell you about the time after football practice, when we went to the AquaDuck for a beer and Danny said to me that it would be appropriate to take off my Pilgrimage button. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at his time. Susan and Anthony Iannuzzelli

Our friendship began when I was a teenager. Danny was my mentor in basketball and life. He pushed me on into Teachers College and convinced the Notre Dame Administration to hire me. I am forever indebted to Danny. He has followed and supported my teams for the past 45 years. In short, whatever blessings I have had in my life are because Danny was there to guide me in the right direction. I am and will always be truly grateful to my friend Danny Bishop. I miss you and Love you. RIP my friend.
