Obituary of Gerald Caron

CARON, Gerald P. Gerry passed away peacefully on October 25, 2021 at the age of 93, surrounded by family. Gerry was the cherished son of the late Corinne (Houle) and Zephire Caron of Chatham. Adored husband of Jean (Pelkey) and devoted father of Brenda Popp (Brian) of Lasalle and Michael (Debbie) of London. Loving grandfather to Meredith Rovansek (Michael), Andrew Popp, Melissa Brooks (Nathan) and Lee (Shawna) Caron. Great grandfather to seven. Gerry was born in Chatham, Ontario. As a child, he loved visiting relatives and enjoyed the freedom and wide open spaces in the farming communities of Pain Court and Grande Pointe. An accomplished singer, he often sang solos for Christmas masses and later led sing-a-longs for charitable events. He initially worked at Imperial Oil in Chatham and after moving to Windsor, he continued his engineering career at MichCon in Detroit, where he undertook special technical projects and relished his bird’s eye view of the Detroit River from his office. He was extremely proud of his community service in Chatham as both a Trustee and Chairman of the Chatham Separate School Board. Among his many accomplishments was spearheading the building of a new school. He was also instrumental in improving the educational experiences for children by bringing in Music and French instruction and physical education. Gerry was a voracious reader of history, a life-long learner, an expert fisherman, a sharp euchre player and an engaging conversationalist. Gerry and Jean celebrated seventy plus years of marriage. Their love and devotion to each other never waned over the years. Just last week, he said, “I have always loved her.” As a dad, Gerry gave us the unconditional love and support to succeed in life. We would like to thank the doctors and staff of Windsor Regional (Met Campus), 4 North for their kindness and compassion. As per Gerry's wishes cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life for Gerry was held by the immediate family. If you wish, you can donate to a charity of your choice in memory of Gerry.
