Obituary of Jan Nielsen

NIELSEN, Jan March 1, 1954 - September 20, 2021 After a courageous battle with cancer, Jan passed away Monday, September 20, 2021, at the age of 67. Cherished husband of Katherine Nielsen. Dearest father of Caroline (Derek Miller), Christel (Mario Grano), and stepfather of Blake Henry. Loving grandfather of Aleshia, Bryce, Madison, Brianna, and great grandfather to Jaxon. Predeceased by his loving wife Christine Versluis, his parents Willie and Gloria Nielsen. Jan will be greatly missed by papa as well as his sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews, many friends, and associates. Jan was born on March 1, 1954, in Denmark, and at an early age his family moved to Canada. He obtained a business degree at Brock University and, in addition, achieved his Red Seal in refrigeration and heating. He worked for many years in the HVAC industry. Throughout Jan’s life, he demonstrated much compassion and generosity with others. He showed immense strength and courage in life, especially with his battle against cancer. He enjoyed and lived life to the very fullest, and always displayed a positive spirit. All who knew Jan enjoyed his twinkling eyes, his laughter and the many stories revealing his great personality. Jan had loved to travel, enjoyed fine food and wine amongst his passions. His greatest accomplishment in life was raising his family whom he loved so very dearly. All his treasured memories were of laughter and love. Without regrets and a smile on his face, Jan completed his dream and final journey driving his Porsche into the sunset. As per Jan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held in his honour. In kindness, donations may be made to Walker Family Cancer Center at Niagara Health.
